My New Media Class... So Far

New media technologies includes any mean that is used to communicate between people. For example, blogs, wikis, telephones, computers, television, second life, among many others, The internet plays a great role in new media because it broads the spectrum, connecting people from all over the world together. From the most remote places in Africa to great metropolises in China, the internet facilitates the communication in a way that we never thought it would be possible. It also brings culture to people who could not afford to travel. A clear example of the is the website artmuseum.net where photographs and culture can be seen by anyone who stumbles through this web page. Another way that the internet is helping people is through community blogs that can display a new restaurant in town or help fight crime like the one feature on New York Times in the article entitled "Brooklyn Blog Helps Lead to Drug Raid" by Micheal Wilson.

New media is replacing old media all the time. In the pass people watch television and waited for VHS to come out to be able to watch their favorite TV shows. Now there are many websites like Hulu.com where you can watch your favorite shows the next day if you missed it or even watch the same episode if you like in a few hours after it was broadcast in national television. This is changing the way people what their favorite television series.

New Media

New media is all the media the involves us right now. From the Twitter to the telephone, everything has a little part in what we call new media. New media are all the ways that we have to communicate with one another. New media creates social media. Everyone in the world conected to discover new ideas and new ways of thinking in a click of a button. Since the popularization of computers, most of the new media today is related to computers and the internet. It is almost crazy to think that about 15 years ago Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, Wikipedia, Google were not popular or not even invented of that matter. The industrial computer, personal computer, the desktop, the laptop, the mobile web capability are examples of how media has changed over the years, but "what is next?" you might think. The answer no one knows.

Description

In this project I will research the history of YouTube and how did it impact the lives of millions of people around the globe. I will further research the negative and positive impacts of the this website. Possibly also I will look into the future of YouTube and attempt to find out if this new media today will ever become old media, or will YouTube turn other medias into old medias.
